A few Chinese phrases go a long way, especially if you’re in a remote area where very little English might be spoken.  Here are a few to give you a head start:

  1. Ni-hao
    Hello

  2. Zai jian
    Goodbye

  3. Xie xie
    Thank you

  4. Qing wen zen mo zou?
    Will you show me the way to

  5. Zou ba
    Let’s go

  6. Duo shao qian?
    How much?

  7. Tai gui le!
    It’s too expensive!

  8. Pian yi dian
    Give me a lower price

  9. Hao chi!!
    It’s delicious!

  10. Zhè gè chē qù Chángchéng ma?
    Does this coach go to the Great Wall?
