The Green Gecko Project
...a safe place for Siem Reap street kids to eat, wash, learn and play
The GREEN GECKO project is an initiative founded to benefit the lives of street children in Siem Reap, Cambodia. The sad reality is that these children, as young as 5 years old, are often the primary breadwinners for their families. Their living conditions are often desperate, leaving these children defenceless to abduction, abuse and disease. The GREEN GECKO project is about providing these children with skills and education to enable them to support themselves and their families. It also provides shelter, care and stability for those physically battered or psychologically in need. At GREEN GECKO, the children can eat a hot lunch, attend an English class, feel secure, play, get a hug, have a shower, get their hair combed, and receive medical attention. Most importantly these children get the opportunity to play and to act like the kids that they are.
THE GREAT GREEN GECKO RAFFLE
This year in 2007 three STA Travel staff members are travelling to Siem Reap to lend a hand at the Green Gecko Project. These three staff members are being sponsored to go by the STA Travel Trust and are trying to raise a minimum of NZD$3000 to give directly to the project.
