Work with us at STA Travel

Why it's great to work here...

Sylvia - Branch Sales Manager, Courtenay Central
'Working at STA Travel gives me the opportunity to work with like minded people on a daily basis. I love the laid back casual feel to STA Travel...cool music, marketing material and no uniforms...yippee!!  The majority of my co workers have undertaken their OE and are of the same mind set as myself having experienced similar life experiences. Also the obvious reason is for my love of travel and the opportunity to expand on my declinational to-do list through my work. In addition there are definitely good prospects for career progression for those who want it'.

Sarah - Travel Adviser, Waikato Uni
'STA is a great place to work. I love the friendly atmosphere of the branch and the people I work with. It nice to be able to express your individuality and not have to conform to the uniform, play the music you want to hear, the list goes on and on.  Some of the educationals STA have taken me on have been- Prague, Dubai, NYC, Berlin, Fiji, & Malaysia.  I guess there's a good reason why I've been at STA for as long as I have been...I love my job!'

World Travel Award

Who is STA Travel?

STA Travel is the world’s leader in student and youth travel, with a global network of over 450 branches worldwide. And don't just take our word for it, we were voted Australasia’s leading travel agency for 2007 at the World Travel Awards.

We believe international travel is the best education. There’s nothing like travel to open the eyes, mind and heart. We’re here because we love what we do, and if we weren’t here we’d be travelling too.

We operate in more than 75 countries with over 3000 staff, and an annual turnover in excess of AU$3billion. In New Zealand and Australia, we have over 100 branches which are located in all major campuses and capital cities across the country. Along with our branches, STA Travel is supported by a powerful telephone sales call centre and a complete on-line booking service.

Unlike the rest in the travel industry, we do not want to be all things to all people. Instead at STA Travel, we specialise in the needs of students and young travellers by offering products and services for education, work, fun, and most of all – the experience! We also work hard and smart to differentiate the STA Travel brand from our competitors and we are highly focused on innovation and marketing.

STA Travel’s people are our backbone. They make this company what it is and will take us to where we want to be. Our people are passionate travellers themselves and they embody the brand and every product and service we provide.

All in a day’s work

Selling travel will be your main focus and in order to make the sale you will need to spend a lot of time with your travellers understanding their travel needs and looking for suitable solutions. Customer service is important to us and you will need to be ready and willing to go the extra mile for your travellers.

You will also spend much of your time on the phone to wholesalers, obtaining quotes so that you can put together itineraries for travellers. Sometimes you will need to spend time researching a particular destination so that you can provide the best possible value to your traveller.

Your day will be busy. It will be varied and no two days will ever be the same.

To work as a STA Travel Adviser or Branch Sales Manager is not for the faint hearted! It’s hard work. The hours can be long, your days will be really busy, and it’s a steep learning curve for the first 6 months. AND it is fun!
