FOR the ultimate wildlife experience caring for endangered pandas in the majestic mountains of China, it’s all here in black and white from specialist holiday provider STA Travel.
Adventurers can get up close and personal with the gorgeous pandas on this two-week placement based in a remote conservation park at the foot of the Qingling mountains, about two hours from Xi’an city.
Nine giant pandas are currently being cared for at the park which is also home to a range of other fascinating species indigenous to China such as the Golden Monkey, Crested Ibis and the sheep-like Takin.
Activities include cleaning animal enclosures, feeding animals and observing their behaviour, general park maintenance, panda research activities, accompanying centre staff on rescue outings and more.
Participants will also have the opportunity to give to human-kind by helping park staff develop their conversational English and by teaching basic English phrases and nursery rhymes at the local school.
Priced from $3365*, the package includes a two week conservation placement, all necessary materials and equipment, 40 hour online Teach English as a Foreign Language course, hotel accommodation, all meals and airport pickup on arrival.
Volunteers can stay longer for an additional $855 per week.
Programs run twice monthly except December, with the last departure for this year being 21 November, 2008.
