What will I be doing?

The jobs vary for each country so check out the brief run down below to help you decide where to go.

Czech Republic - The Czech Republic has developed a reputation as a premium TEFL destination and that has had a significant impact on the expectations of local schools. Most language institutes now demand previous experience, making it particularly difficult for recently qualified tutors to find work. Our TEFL job in the Czech Republic solves this problem, allowing first-time teachers to secure work here with ease.  TEFL qualification required.

  • Salary: From 15,000 Czech Koruna and up to NZ$1300 per month based on a 25 hour week. For good teachers pay per hour can increase and there could be the opportunity to work up to 35 hours per week. Tax of 15%-25% will be payable locally, dependent on earnings.
  • Accommodation: When you first arrive in Prague you will stay in a youth hostel near to the city centre and the school. You will then be assisted in finding rental accommodation for the remainder of your stay.
  • Arrival: You will be met at Prague Airport (PRG) and taken to your accommodation. The next day you will be taken on an orientation tour of the city centre. You will also be taken to the school within your first couple of days, introduced to your tutor who will help you throughout your stay and introduced to the teaching methods of the school. You will then spend 1 – 3 days training before starting classes.
  • Locations: The school is located in the heart of Prague in the old historical centre. However, you may also be required to teach individuals or groups in other locations which could be anywhere in Prague. If you need to commute in this way, extra money will be paid and the cost of transportation will be reimbursed.
  • Contract length: 9 or 12 months.
  • Departure dates: Departures are available every month although the majority of placements are available in September.
  • Free courses: Czech lessons are provided at the school. Course attendance is voluntary so you can skip or quit classes whenever you want.

Greece - Living costs are low in Greece, leaving you with the extra cash you need to explore this incredible country. This is a great opportunity to get right to the heart of a unique culture, and though the TEFL market can be competitive here, it’s more than worth the extra effort! You must be either a British or Irish passport holder and hold a university degree.

  • Salary: up to NZ$1380 per month, net of National Insurance, based on a 25 hour week. You will also receive a bonus of approximately one third of one month's salary at Christmas and Easter.
  • Accommodation: During your orientation and practical training, self-catering accommodation will be arranged for you. This will cost €25 per night (for your first 3 nights). After this, the majority of teachers will transfer straight to their school where accommodation will be provided - in some cases this will be free (excluding bills), in others you will pay rent of approximately €200 per month. Occasionally there is the opportunity to spend up to 3 weeks in Greece between the orientation and starting work. In this case, accommodation in a dorm in a budget hostel should cost approximately €25 per night.
  • Arrival: You will be met at Athens airport and transferred to your accommodation in Corinth. The following day you will start your 2 day orientation which will include practical teaching tips. On completing your orientation you will be taken to the airport, train or bus station where you will take public transportation to the town of your school. You will be met by a representative of the school on your arrival in the town.
  • Locations: Schools are located throughout Greece.
  • Contract length: 9 months starting in September.

Hungary - English is compulsory for all students wishing to attend university in Hungary, so it is slowly becoming the unofficial second language in the country. For this reason are TEFL qualifications are greatly valued, especially in the growing English for business market. Despite the apparent lack of opportunities in Hungary, we have managed to find some excellent jobs in Budapest and the provinces. University degree required.

  • Salary: Up to NZ$195 per month based on a 22 hour week. This is a Teaching Assistant role, and for this reason, pay is lower than a very experienced English Teacher would receive. This pay is not taxed locally.
  • Accommodation: During your orientation you will stay in shared room in an apartment, costing approximately 6,000 HUF / $32 (USD) per night for 3 nights. For the duration of your time as a teaching assistant you will live in a homestay, hostel or in school accommodation paid for by your school, with a hot lunch provided at the school on working days.
  • Arrival: You will be met at the airport and transferred to your accommodation. The next day you will start a 2 day orientation which will include practical teaching tips and teaching practice, before being collected and taken to your accommodation.
  • Locations: Schools are located throughout Hungary, including a number of schools in Budapest.
  • Contract lengths: 6 months
  • Departure dates: February and September

Slovakia - Bratislava is sometimes called the Pearl on the Danube and that it has a relaxed Mediterranean type atmosphere. Bratislava is a seaside city without the sea. • Salary: up to NZ$1100 per month.
  • Accommodation: usually shared flat with other teachers 4000-5000SKK per month.

  • Contract length: 9 months.
