The newly reinstated German capital has undergone incredible changes in recent years and to this day remains a city of stark contrasts. While the city-west boasts a range of stylish shops, restaurants and theatres, the city-east has developed an unrivalled cultural scene of its own, with trendy bars and nightclubs, to alternative art galleries and museums. Berlin is host to numerous festivals and major events throughout the year, including the International Film Festival in February, the Carnival of Culture in June, and of course the famous Love Parade in July.
