Then she volunteered with panda conservation for two weeks.
This experience benefitted both animals and locals! Rachel helped preserve some of the world's most endangered species AND helped the staff work on their English. This showed what volunteering is all about!
Volunteering around the world is not only very popular among our customers, it's an integral part of who were are. STA Travel firmly believes that travel changes lives for the better. Well, part of that is showing our student travelers how they can help change someone else's life for the better.
There is a total of 1,000 - that's it - 1,000 Giant Pandas in existence right now in the world. Your help is needed to take care of 10 of them as well as a variety of other fascinating species indigenous to China, including the Golden Monkey, Crested Ibis and the sheep-like Takin. You will help shed some light on the plight of all these creatures by developing literature, programs of activities, teaching resources and Internet/e-mail facilities. You'll be based in the majestic surroundings at the foot of the Qingling mountains.

| What you'll do? |
Work at a conservation center that aims to preserve some of the world’s most endangered species: Giant Pandas, Golden Monkeys, the Crested Ibis, the Takin, and the Sika. The center is currently looking after and monitoring ten giant pandas. |
| Why you? |
Help the staff with their English, which is important so that they can attract more tourists and generate an increase in revenue at the center. This can then pay for research and looking after the pandas. The project staff also wants to improve and practice their English so that they can attend international conferences on animal conservation. |
| Where you'll be? |
About 2 hours away from Xi’an. The area is backed by mountains and overlooks a river. The surrounding forests are very lush and beautiful and are great for walking and are full of Chinese pine, juniper trees and bamboo. |
