What It Is

The Work and Holiday Visa is what you need to work legally in Australia so you can earn the money you need to travel around for up to 12 months!

 

The Australian Work and Holiday visa means you'll be paid with direct deposit into your Australian bank account. Plus, it lets you:

  • enter Australia at any time within 3 months of the visa grant date
  • leave and re-enter Australia any number of times during the 12 months from the date of first entry
  • get a job or study for up to 4 months

You'll make:

Hourly earnings start in the mid-teens but there's plenty of opportunity to earn more than that!

What kind of jobs can I take?

There's no restriction on what you can do. But, you can only stay at a job for up to 6 months.

Basic Information

Eligibility:

  • Between ages of 18 and 30 (inclusive)
  • Outside of Australia when you apply for and are granted the visa
  • Proof you are enrolled in college, are in deferred status, or received your degree within the last 12 months
  • Have a round-trip ticket or enough money to buy your plane ticket home as well as enough money to get you started in Australia, generally 5,000 AUD
  • Meet health and character requirements.
  • Have adequate travel insurance coverage during your stay in Australia.

Travel

You can leave and return to Australia as often as you want, but just remember that the timer doesn’t stop on your visa just because you’re not in Australia. You have 12 months from date of entry. No time will be added on to make up for time spent traveling outside of the country.

Go with a friend.

If you want to do this “visa thing” with a friend, spouse or significant other, they have to apply for a visa as well. Applicants can not be accompanied by dependants and/or children.
