UK Travel Tips
We've put our heads together to make a list of our best travel tips for our fave UK destinations, check them out below -
London
- Fancy a night at the theatre? Purchase last minute cheap tickets from Leicester Square.
- Monopoly Pub Crawl - It's all about strategy. 26 pubs might seem like a tall order, and it is if you have a pint in each one. But if your aim is to finish the whole route rather than pass out halfway through try only having half a pint at each pub.
- Buy an Oyster card for cheap tube travel - it will save you loads.
- Get free entry into St Paul's Cathedral and Westminster Abbey on Sundays.
- High tea at the Ritz - the best damn cucumber sandwiches you'll ever try!
Manchester
- Visit the holy ground of the world's most famous football team, Manchester United. There are tours every 10 minutes daily. Maybe you'll sneak a peek of David Beckham!
- If you're after cheap shopping, and I'm talking seriously cheap (like 6 pounds for a pair of boots!) head to Primark. Make sure you've got your shopping shoes on (you could be lining up for hours) and your fingers at the ready to grab whatever you can!
- Take a romantic walk among the bridges and boats of Castlefield.
Liverpool
- Liverpool is the home of the Beatles. Jump onboard the Magical Mystery Strawberry Fields Penny Lane Beatles bus tour. For decent memorabilia, check out the Beatles Shop, 31 Mathew Street.
- Visit Everyman Bistro for a bite to eat. Out-of-work actors and other creative types on a budget make this great cafe beneath the Everyman Theatre their second home - with good reason; great tucker and a terrific atmosphere.
- If you're interested in history and art, take yourself down to the Tate Liverpool Gallery and the Walker Gallery.
Edinburgh
- Eat lunch at Nicolson's Cafe, where J K Rowling famously wrote portions of the Harry Potter novels
- Pig out at Oink. The menu is very simple: choose a roll stuffed with slow roast pork or a roll stuffed with slow roast pork with crackling (for 25p more)
- You can't visit Edinburgh without taking the walk up the Royal Mile to Edinburgh Castle.
- Jump onboard a Haggis tour and head north in search of the famous Nessy
Glasgow
- Whack on a kilt, strap on some bagpipes and blow your little lungs out.....or walk down the street and pay a few quid for a photo with a true Scottish highlander.
- Go to a Rangers or Celtic game, just don't don’t accidentally cheer for the wrong team!
- If you're in Glasgow during 17 March - 10 April 2011 grab a couple of tickets to the Glasgow International Comedy Festival.
- Jousting anyone? Hamish and Andy style!
Cardiff
- Freak yourself out with a Cardiff ghost walk. Just a 10min bus ride from Cardiff Castle a rich array of tales awaits you...
- A trip to Cardiff isn't complete without taking home a Welsh Love Spoon. Back in the old days, before men bought their loved ones gifts of flowers, chocolates and jewellery as a token of affection, they would give a more special, more personal gift to their object of their desire, the Welsh Love Spoon, ahhhh.
- Visit Barry, the birth place of our Prime Minister Julia Gillard.
- For all you Charlotte Church fans out there, did you know she was born in Cardiff? You can stalk her!
