What's the easiest way to get around Malaysia?

Like most countries in South East Asia, Malaysia is extremely easy to get around, whether you're a fan of planes, trains or buses.

Air:

There are loads of airports around Malaysia, but the most popular are Kuala Lumpur International Airport, Kota Kinabalu International Airport, Penang International Airport and Langkawi International Airport. There are still plenty more dotted around Malaysia as well if you prefer travelling by plane. Have a look at our flights to Malaysia.

Train:

Travelling by train is one of the easiest ways of getting around Malaysia, and the public transport system is quick, clean and really affordable. There are loads of train stations dotted around Malaysia, but one of the most used routes is from Kuala Lumpur to Penang. People often go straight to Georgetown which makes the train one of the easier ways of travelling as the train drops you off right next to the ferry port. Train tickets are easy to purchase at the station or online - occassionally your hostels might be able to help you sort them out as well. If you'd rather sort out your transport before you arrive, you can book through STA Travel.

Bus:

Another easy and cheap way of getting around Malaysia if you've got a lot of time to spare is by bus. People often travel from Singapore into Malaysia by bus, and if travellers are visiting a few different places across the country then bus is the most accessible. Bus tickets can be easily bought on the day at the coach stations. If you'd like to go on a bus adventure across Malaysia as part of a group, then you should definitely check out our Satay Ways bus pass with Bamba.
