5 USA cities to bring in the New Year

There’s something magical about New Year’s Eve. A time of optimism for the year ahead, to reflect on the adventures of 2017 and an excuse to party, in the words of Lionel, all night long! Wild street parties, hipster rooftop bars and fireworks with a pina colada on the beach? Err yes please! So go beyond the usual NYC shebang and hit up one of these epic alternative destinations instead. You won’t regret it.

1. New Orleans, Louisiana

With year-round live jazz and dancing in the streets, it comes as no surprise that the residents of New Orleans know the perfect mix to make New Years a bloody good one. Head to the French Quarter and immerse yourself in the energy of a neighbourhood dive bar, watch the Mississipi River fireworks and cheers with Tiki cocktails at Tiki Tolteca. Or why not get your teeth around Snug Harbor’s delicious Cajun classics whilst listening to some of the best Jazz in town!

2. Nashville, Tennessee

Another city of music, Nashville has a whole host of parties that focus on banging country beats, whiskey-based booze and feel good vibes. Try out Jack Daniel’s massive free event ‘Bash on Broadway’ belting out music from the city’s big dawgs in the industry as well as a confetti drop and fireworks when the clock strikes 12. Not into the big crowds? No worries. Most bars and restaurants are keen to get the NYE party started with special deals to show you a real good time.

3. Honolulu, Hawaii

Simply being on this tropical island for New Year’s Eve is beaut enough. But watching the fireworks in a Hawaiian shirt in a beachfront beer garden takes it to a whole other level! Whether you’re up for a chiller at Waikiki beach or keen to rave until sunrise, Honolulu has got you covered. And what better way to wake up on New Year’s day than a swim in the ocean. Am I right?

4. Portland, Oregon

Termed the hipster capital of the USA, you’ll be spoilt for choice of trendy bars, craft breweries and cosy spots to listen to live music with the crew. Feeling fancy? Get glammed up and head to Portland’s famous Champagne ball with 18 bars, 3 dance floors, buffets, desserts and late-night pizza (eating is NOT cheating). And when those tired party feet need a time-out there’s even a chill lounge to relax in.

5. Lake Tahoe, Nevada and California

More at home in the countryside than city slicker? Surround yourself with snowy peaks and icy lake views while dancing with at SnowGlobe Music Festival in South Lake Tahoe. But if New Years is all about the fireworks for you then wrap up extra warm and head to Heavenly Village for ice carving, live music, a gondola ball drop and a firework display that lights up the impressive Lake Tahoe landscape.
