This week’s question comes from blog reader Stacey, who’s got a serious case of itchy feet. Stacey, tell us what’s on your mind:
I’M THINKING ABOUT GOING TO CANADA NEXT SUMMER.
I LOVE TRAVELLING AND JUST WANT A CHANGE FROM THE SAME OLD DAILY ROUTINE.
WHERE IN CANADA IS BEST TO GO? I’M LOOKING FOR SOMEWHERE WITH GOOD NIGHTLIFE. STACEY
There’s no better way to shake up your daily routine than with a bit of travelling, Stacey! Canada is a great choice – maple syrup, awesome skiing and, err, Ryan Gosling. What more could you want? JESSICA AMBROSE FROM STA TRAVEL LEEDS VICAR LANE SAYS…
The main cities in Canada have some amazing nightlife, Stacey, but obviously the country is also known for its awesome natural scenery. The majestic Rockies stand on the west side while to the east of the country, Niagara Falls continually thunders.
I’d suggest taking a trip to Toronto and staying at the Global Village Hostel.
Toronto is the perfect place to start a Canadian adventure
As Toronto’s biggest hotel you’re sure to find some like-minded travellers to accompany you on your nights out! It has its own bar and huge common areas, so it’s definitely a sociable hostel. The best bit is the pancake breakfast to help you recover from the night before!
With a huge range of clubs and bars you’re sure to find something to tickle your fancy in this amazing city; from the trendy, flashy bars to the arty underground booking-only bars, there’s definitely something for everyone. If you’re looking for live music head downtown and you’ll find something any day of the week. Check out the crowd favourites Horseshoe Tavern and Lee’s Palace.
Aside from the nightlife, from Toronto you can take a trip across to Niagara Falls. We have a great day trip that also includes some time in the wine region of Ontario. You’ll then stop in the town of Niagara, where you can explore the shops and stop for a coffee pick me up if the wine didn’t do the job, and then head off to the main attraction of Niagara Falls. There are options to take in the best views of the Falls by helicopter or the Maid of the Mist boat ride will take you right up to the swirling waters at the base of the Falls – get your stylish poncho out!

Canada is well known for its ski resorts, but the Rockies are also stunning in the summer time. We have some hop-on hop-off passes or adventure tours which will allow you to really explore this area. They’ll take you to the best viewpoints for turquoise blue lakes and mountain ridges while you get to make new mates along the way.
One thing you cannot miss is the Columbia Icefield. You get there by travelling along the Icefield Parkway which is simply one of the most stunning routes in the world, then you get to travel onto the glacier itself in an Ice Explorer.
If you’re an outdoors kind of person then the HI Alpine Centre in Banff is the perfect place to stay to get involved in loads of summer activities including canoeing, kayaking, hiking, biking and white water rafting! It’s a very sociable hostel so you’ll never be short of people to hang out with.
If you really want to get out and explore rather than stick in one place then we have some adventure tours which cover the country east to west. Alternatively, if you’re travelling with mates you might want to consider hiring a campervan so you can wake up with a new bit of Canada’s scenery on your doorstep each morning!
