You shouldn’t accept sitting in the same traffic jam every day or doing a job you hate day in, day out. But don’t worry, we’re here to help you break out of it. All you need to do is make a few small changes to your daily routine in order to accomplish great things! We’re not saying become an adrenaline junkie but just gain a new perspective on the world. What is your comfort zone?
To put it simply, it’s where you stay doing the same thing to keep things comfortable. Like sitting in your favourite arm chair everyday – we’ve all done it! But being comfy is no good, because we don’t stretch ourselves, we follow the daily routine and don’t experience new things.
By stepping outside of your comfort zone you can produce amazing results and will be impressed with what you achieve! I’m sure you can remember a time when you pushed yourself and did something awesome, like nailing an exam, passing your driving test or going for a successful job interview.
How do I break out of my comfort zone?
1. Start small by changing everyday things; take a different route to work, try a new food or become vegetarian for a week. You don’t have to go mad and leap out of plane. Don’t be ashamed to start slow, maybe spend the day exploring a new area of your city alone before you book a round the world trip by yourself.
Trust us, once you’ve had a taste for it there’ll be no going back, here’s why travelling solo is so good for you.
2. Learning a new language is another great way to stretch yourself. It has multiple benefits, it’s a new skill and a doorway into other communities.
3. Trust yourself and go for it, make a snap decision, sometimes as snap decision is all you need to get the ball rolling! Follow your heart and have faith in your own judgement.
4. Finally, don’t be put off if things don’t work out the way you planned or if the experience wasn’t particularly epic, the point is you’re DOING it. You’re pushing yourself past mental blocks that say you shouldn’t and proven to yourself that you’re open to new things.
What do I benefit from breaking out of my comfort zone?
SO MUCH… you’ll be more productive, comfort kills productivity. You need that fear of looming deadlines or sense of expectation to achieve your true potential, basically a few nerves are good for you!
You’ll be WAY more effective and confident. By taking risks in a controlled fashion like a sky dive or a bungee jump, you’ll learn how to be outside of your comfort zone in a controlled manner, which will help you cope when life changes force you out of it.
PLUS, breaking out of your comfort zone gets easier over time and you can’t live your whole life seeing the world from the comfort of your front door! You just can’t.
