With the year coming to a close, you might be thinking New Year, new you. Or perhaps, more likely, new year, new adventures to embark on! Whether you’re wanting to tick off your ever-increasing bucket list, visit friends and family, or are just plain nosy and want to know where we would go on the ultimate ‘Big Trip’.

We thought travel inspo couldn’t get much better than this, but we’ve been experimenting with a UK tech start up what3words.com, who are dividing the WHOLE word into 57 trillion 3m x 3m squares, and assigning each square a unique 3 word address.

Flinders Street Station? We think you mean decide.chair.tribe.

bikes.audio.half? We’ll see you outside the London Eye.

A picture tells 47,727 miles of stories. A film highlights it in 120 seconds. We sum in up in three words…

Next stop, It’s time to let the video do the talking…

3 Reasons why you should volunteer in Cape Town:

1. SO much variety!

Volunteering Cape Town
Cape Town is South Africa’s buzzing capital, encapsulating the city’s beauty and its struggles. The volunteering projects available reflect the country’s diversity, there’s literally SO much to choose. Take your pick from: rescuing penguins, teaching children, working with lions, sports coaching, surf instructor or volunteering with Great Whites (yikes!). But it doesn’t stop there, whether you’re an animal lover or want to work with children or both, Cape Town will probably have the volunteering project to suit you.

2. Everything’s on your doorstep

Only a four hour drive from Cape Town, you’ll be able to head out over the weekend and check out the ‘Big 5’. Or fancy going wine tasting? Join a Cape Winelands tour and taste the delights of the Stellenbosch wine region – a day spent gorging on wine and cheese, bliss!

3. The city itself

Cape Town
Just look around you… you’re in Cape Town! You’ll be volunteering in one of the most incredible cities in the world, so get out there and explore. Check out Long Street it’s got an incredible bohemian feel with second-hand bookshops, antique dealers and clothing boutiques. This street comes alive at night with buzzing bars and tasty restaurants situated in old Victorian buildings – great to blow off some steam after a hard day’s volunteering! Obviously, there’s Table mountain, Robben Island and V&A Waterfront all of which need to be ticket off you Cape Town bucket-list.

OK so who exactly are what3words.com?

Who?
Basically these guys are on a mission to make the world a more efficient, less frustrating and safer place. How exactly are they doing that? They are addressing the world with a unique combination of just 3 words. So forget postcodes and co-ordinates, the whole world is mapped by 3mx3m square and each square (all 57 trillion of them) has been pre-allocated a fixed & unique 3 word address. Hence ‘Milky. Happier. Tapes.’ at the start of the video. Starting to make sense now?

Why though?
Because around 75{67e156e4ee2ef9246962f65a4f1efdaee88fb3c7951f538c2a80b1896ec79ca1} of the world is addressed inconsistently, parcels, letters aren’t being delivered, tourist attractions or places aren’t being found and people are getting lost. Three words give the world the ability to talk about precise locations as simply as possible.

Simple. As. That.
