City Guide and Travel Tips

NYC. The Big Apple. One of the most iconic cities in the world and a must-visit destination for all travel lovers out there. From the bright lights of Times Square and the hipster vibes of Brooklyn, to kicking back in Central Park and dining in authentic New York hangouts - Manhattan and its neighbours pull visitors back time and time again.

  • Carnegie Deli
Rise early and go for an epic breakfast at Carnegie Deli on 7th Avenue. Think huge, meaty NYC style sandwiches, delicious bagels, sweet bacon and delicious 'cwoffee'.
  • Catch a Game
Catch an ice hockey or basketball game at the iconic venue of Madison Square Gardens. Or head up to the Bronx and experience the baseball at the Yankee Stadium.
  • Lombardi's Pizza
Dine on some of the best New York pizza at Lombardi's restaurant in Little Italy. Opened in 1905, this was the USA's first pizzeria, so as they say, you'll be tasting a slice of history!
  • Central Park
Manhattan's iconic park is awesome throughout the year. Relax amongst the trees during the spring and summer months, watch the leaves change colour during the autumn, and go ice skating in the winter - particularly atmospheric at Christmas!
  • The Highline
The once industrial areas of Manhattan have become the height of cool in recent years, and the amazing Highline is one of the best features - a 1.45 mile-long elevated walkway transformed from an old railway line.
  • Brooklyn
Head over to New York's neighbourhood of the moment - Brooklyn. With trendy bars and restaurants as well as cool coffee shops, boutiques and hipster hangouts, this is the place to be right now!

Travelling to New York

Lucky for us there are direct flights available from the UK to New York with a variety of airport options both here and there. JFK, Newark and La Guardia airports are all within easy distance to the city centre, with public transport and taxis readily available. Flying time is anything between 5.5 and 7 hours (depending on wind) with the time difference in our favour, meaning it's actually doable for a short break.

NYC is a year round destination! In autumn watch the trees of Central Park turn to warm shades of orange and red and see the Thanksgiving Day parade. Winter welcomes the iconic Rockefeller Christmas tree, ice skating and exciting ice hockey in Madison Square Gardens. In spring and summer the city buzzes with alfresco dining, outdoor cinema and concerts and evenings spent at trendy rooftop bars.

Known as the city that never sleeps, New York is one of the most vibrant and cosmopolitan cities in the world, and its varying neighbourhoods each have their own personality. Whether you're visiting for just a few days or plan to stay longer, the districts of NYC are perfect for exploring! Here are a few of our favourites...

East Village
East Village is home to iconic apartment blocks and has become a haven for cool cafes, budget friendly eateries and a happening bar scene.  It was once the home of many alternative and artistic movements and is known for playing an important role in the rise of punk rock.

Primarily a residential area, Chelsea is a great place to (if only briefly) get away from it all. It has an upmarket vibe, partly thanks to its endless galleries and contemporary art scene. It is also home to a seriously foodie market.

Williamsburg & Bushwick
Brooklyn is where it's at right now. Hit Williamsburg for awesome bars and restaurants and trendy vibes, or head to Bushwick for the latest hipster hangouts and an escape from the tourist trail.
