Prague

City guide

To say that the Czechs like beer is an understatement. Generally cheaper than bottled water and available to buy at any time, you're going to want to mentally (and physically) prepare your liver for your Prague adventure. Not a beer fan? No worries; explore the city's medieval warrens, tuck into a tasty strudel and gaze at the gothic spires of Prague Castle.

Top things to do in Prague

  • Prague museums
From the National Museum to the Museum of Communism for a thorough understanding of the history of Prague – and then a well deserved break at the beer museum - where you can try heaps of different beers! There is also the bone museum (or Sedlec Ossuary) is a small chapel about an hour travel from Prague. As the 2nd most visited site in Czech Republic, we're not the only ones who thinks it's worth a visit.
  • Prague Castle
Don’t skip a wander through Prague Castle (or should we say Castle complex) - this is the largest castle complex in the world so get your walking shoes on. As a bonus, you’ll also find St. Vitus Cathedral and St. George’s Basilica. Yep, the castle grounds are so big they’ve got two cathedrals on site!
  • Charles Bridge
Wander over the picturesque Charles Bridge or take a cruise under it for complete scenic views.
  • Mala Strana
Travel down the beautiful cobble stone streets while taking in the gorgeous architecture.
  • Wallenstein Garden
This baroque-style sight is almost as breathtaking as the white peacocks you might see wandering around the grounds. Complete with a Koi pond, these gardens deserve your attention.
  • Party it up!
There ain't no party like a Prague club party!! You'll have to see this one for yourself...

When's the best time to visit Prague?

Czech summers can be warm and sunny but no soaring temperatures – expect averages of 25°C during June/August. In winter it can drop to 0°C so make sure to wrap up. It’s also nothing a mulled wine can’t solve – did we mention Prague is famous for its Christmas markets?! Yep, plural – their markets are dotted around the city creating truly wintery wonderland settings. They open each year early December to early January and it’s the perfect time to get in the festive spirit.

Nightlife in Prague

Perhaps one of the most underrated nightlife spots in Europe – with cozy bars and crazy nightclubs, there’s a range of choice.

Check out the Hemingway Bar, named after Ernest himself due to his love of bars – this place offers over 200 rum options and dare we say a wide selection of absinthe.

Try The Pub for a fun and interactive drinking experience. Each table has its own tap to pour your own beer along with leaderboard so you can see how much alcohol each table is consuming – got a competitive streak? Keep on drinking to keep your table at the top!

For a cheap and cheerful night out, check out Dejavu for an incredible happy hour – cocktails for £2 - it’s a no brainer.

Head to the Ice Pub for a cool experience (see what we did there?) - within your 30-minute slot, you can drink in a unique atmosphere where the walls, tables and glasses are made of ice.
